Vaccines

  1. Does my pet need vaccines to stay in the kennel?

The Kennel House LLC requires that vaccinations be current as well as a negative fecal test for parasites within 12 months.  Your pet should also be on a flea control program.  The following vaccines are required although your veterinarian may recommend others.

    DOGS:

DHPP or DHLPP within 3 years, one year if it is following the puppy series.

CANINE COUGH (Bordetella)  within 6 months

Rabies Vaccine within 3 years or one year if it is following the puppy vaccine.

    CATS:

FVRCP (distemper and upper respiratory) within 1 year.

Rabies vaccine yearly or as recommended by your veterinarian.

**Please remember that if your dog or cat has been vaccinated with their first vaccine (such as DHLPP) they will need a booster in three weeks. Talk to your Veterinarian about why this is important.  Also, do not get vaccines just before boarding your pet.  They should have several days to build optimal immunity before possible exposure.

  2. Can I give the vaccines myself?

We only accept vaccines that are given by your Veterinarian.

Food

  1. Can I bring my pet's food?

We ask that you bring your own food.  This helps to prevent digestive upset and also encourages a normal appetite.  Please place the food into a container that is clearly labeled with your pet's name and your last name.  Include instructions on how much to feed and how often.  Also, if not in the original container, write down what kind of food it is in case we run out.

Beds and Toys

  1. Can I bring my pet's bed or toys?

Yes, please bring favorite toys and your pet's bed or blankets.  If possible label everything with your name.  Please recognize that we will do our best to return bedding in clean and original condition, however dogs do sometimes chew beds while boarding.

Illness

  1. What if my pet gets sick or doesn't eat?

If your pet isn't eating we will cook rice and chicken to help stimulate their appetite.  This usually works well and doesn't cause digestive upset.

If your pet becomes ill we will contact you through the emergency contact phone number you left us.  If necessary we will take your pet to your veterinarian for treament.

Climate control

  1. Is the kennel air conditioned and heated?

The kennel has forced air heat and each run has its own heat register.  During the winter we set the thermostat at a comfortable temperature for people and animals.  During the summer we control the temperature with air conditioners and fans.   We keep an exhaust fan running at all times for complete ventilation.

Exercise

  1. Will my pet get to go outside?

We have large fenced exercise yards with a gravel base that is disinfected several times a day.  All dogs go out individually at 7AM, noon, around 5PM and then again at 8 or 9 PM.  Some dogs need to go out more often and are let out as needed.  If necessary we will leash walk your dog on grass.

If your pet is not ill, but takes regular prescribed medication, we will administer it at no extra charge up to two times daily.  Medications that are given three or more times a day will be charged an additional fee.  All medications must be in the original container with the prescription label.  Please note that ill pets or diabetic pets should be boarded with your veterinarian.
